I'm hacking and venturing into this WIP in a way that feels nice. My voice is still very pitchy at times and also very boring at times (my paragraphs tend to become recursive, which is boring), but I think I'm getting the feel for how this will work. I will write a little, look back at my plans, write a little more, revise, etc. The only issue then becomes time, as I have to get this finished in about a month. The deadline isn't strict but I want the challenge.
Winesburg, Ohio has been a deep well of beauty that I'm drawing from over and over. There's a certain way Sherwood Anderson writes where the prose is a low murmuring like a small river and you don't know there's beauty but actually it's there. His prose is evocative but his diction is understated, and that's what I'm struggling with. I write with showy words. I will learn to write with less showy words and still evoke.
I'm reading Pnin now and it's really funny.
