05.01.2025 (1): Willow Willow

No wonder Lovecraft loved this book: He took all his tricks from it! The veil bits, the insignificance of mankind etc. etc. - It's all in here. Algernon Blackwood really commits to the 'horror as perception' as all the horror is retrospective. Gosh, the bit about the otter is terrific! I also found something missing in Lovecraft that Blackwood has: humor. Everything too tragic or horrific takes on a maudlin tone without humor I think, because people do live in the world like that.
