  • I enjoyed the writing process today and yesterday. I think I'm back to enjoying writing and not treating it as a thing to be dashed off (because, to be fair, I was pulling 12 hour days at work). This has also extended to reading. Fingers crossed this will be sustained!
Yesterday's writing session was very wonderful. I got back that feeling of tinkering with the story, of being wrapped up in it enough that I thought about it all day - and all for one scene! I think the scene flows well enough also that it'll survive a first draft. I guess this is the thing - that there's no shortcut to this sort of writing, that I have to put all the time and attention to it, and really circle and tease it out. That's a lot of the craft, I guess, a dogged persistence. The rest I'm hoping I can learn.

Tomorrow I'll resume reading The Perpetual Orgy for that all-too-important element of craft. Fingers crossed! I also finished reading A Touch of Lavender and gosh it's about as subtle as a brick but it really, really works.

Also impressions from today:
  • Very red sunset from rainclouds gathering, and above a patch of still-blue sky gently graying. After that, rain at night.
  • A satisfaction from reading Stephen King in the middle of the day, with the curtains trying to block the light.
