Had a rather pleasant time today just playing computer games. I just let myself do it: I think I do deserve it, after having been to Australia and back this week, and it really is a wonderful feeling not to have the stress of deadlines weigh so heavily. I even managed to write quite a bit in the morning, which is a sure sign of cooler (internal) heads prevailing.
I read a little more Alice Munro today and I teared up at the stories, mainly Tricks. I really love it when she writes lonely characters - they're always so resolute and normal about their loneliness, though I think with Tricks especially, Munro is a little cruel. Trespasses is also great since that story also features a lonely person. I think the word I'm reaching for, instead of lonely, is alienated. I really have to read that Chekhov play about a bunch of women being alienated from their surroundings.
