Day 111.1: The Walker Sequence in Stoner

Good goodness that long sequence involving Walker in Stoner is my worst nightmare. I was cringing the entire time: full-body cringing, with my toes curled and everything. I was actually going "Oh come on, Stoner!" when he refused to give the guy a pass. Come on, Stoner! Entirely wrong time to go rigid. Though scarily I was on Stoner's side the entire time, and turned on him that exact moment. In real life I would probably do the same thing - if I were in Stoner's position, I would capitulate at the first sign of resistance. That sort of resistance never ends well. I am doing no dying on hills.

His affair is going to sour because his department head is opposed to him. Mark my words. It's interesting though how most of this is workplace drama, ambition drama, I think I get a different flavor of that when I'm reading up on female loneliness.


I am really loving this book!
