I mentioned before that I have rather high 'activation costs' for writing,in that I have to work myself up into a froth before I do it. Well, I think one of the ways I can do that is simply read Alice Munro. I swear her everything is so neat that whenever I read her I get this swell of admiration so hearty that I end up jotting things down and getting insights about my characters. True that I usually need more than that, and I usually still need time to ward away that dread of writing something bad I always get, but she helps. She helps a lot. I'm just so chuffed about her writing!
I'm currently rereading The Progress of Love and I swear every time I reread I find more things to admire. I'm loving all the stories more: Miles City, Montana and Monsieur les Deux Chapeaux especially. Also, I'm finding her easier and easier to read, though I sometimes worry it's too easy and I'm reading her too casually...
