After the frankly a little shattering event of Eudora Welty's short story, I think I've done quite well in actually trying to write. I received a really good book from a friend (An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us) but also everyone's notes on the 2022 Surrey International Writers' Conference, which is structured like an incredibly awesome zine slash writer's candy-jar!
So: Reaching into this candy-jar, I read about trying to start your novel at the midpoint, the mirror-moment, a pivotal moment of self-reflection where the character is aware of what she can become and decides to make the choice. I think I'm going to do my own spin on this with Seiran's continuation fic. There will be a pivotal midpoint involving Seiran's personality and crush on Reisen and adaptation, and I am writing backwards and forwards from this scene/happening. It's a cool heuristic I'm trying out and I've just rolled out the first draft of my plot outline!
