I read more of Fugitive Pieces today, and despite much hand-wringing I think I like it again. I'm not so envious now. There is enough wretchedness in the character's lives that they seem familiar, and there is a lot that are not wretched but don't fit, which is my favorite quality of character. I also posted the first chapter of the New Year, hooray! I think it's a choppy chapter, but then I was anxious about having to write a big show-off ritual and procrastinated by finishing an entirely different chapter, so I'm glad that's over.
