I had another long shift at work, but I managed to read some Alice Munro, finished some tasks, and wrote something I'm alright with! I think reading Alice always helps to encourage me to slow down and make less drama, and later, edit things so the emotions come in gentle, almost indiscernible waves. I want to make things cozy in that Alice way, in that the revelations dawn on you. But I get why too much of that equals boredom for most readers.
I think I'm in my boredom phase, where I'm very much concerned with making things less dramatic. I really should try to resume reading The Emotional Craft of Fiction just to make sure that I'm still able to play with emotions, and I am currently reading some dramatic enough books I think to counteract that slide towards stillness. But maybe I rather like being a little still. I think I'll work it out, in time.
