I'm noticing Carson's narrative style shifts more and more now. Like the way Jake Blount thinks younguns. I think my favorite is Mick's style: I think Carson captures that awkward, bluntly inflexible tween-ness exactly right, most significantly (for me) in the way Mick uses O.K. and her tendency to repeat the neat things she's heard and seen in her mind. She also uses words like common in a way that indicates she's only just learned how to do it properly. I think this is similar to where in The Member of the Wedding Frankie repeats a joke her brother says religiously, about dogcatchers and democratic candidates. A little bit more and I'd have thought it overblown, but Carson strikes the balance I think.
