03.02.2025: Hamlet (Not)

I tried reading Hamlet a few days ago and finished reading the text, but gosh so many things are flying above me! Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. Hamlet seems like he emerged from another play, he's so suave and packed with wit (most of it obscure to me, but even I got the country matters bit, and the bit about clouds) that he should've been around longer. I misread some parts and thought Claudius was at least a little sympathetic. I misread other parts and thought Polonius was a bore (is he supposed to be?) The play's somewhat funny, especially the part where Hamlet runs around and gets kidnapped by pirates (supposedly). I missed that Horatio bit where he wants to follow Hamlet to his death. Horatio seemed like a nice friend. Also Hamlet runs circles around everyone! Ophelia - I missed Ophelia because she was so soft and her things so veiled. Oh well.
I'd love to read more Shakespeare but I'd need it heavily annotated. Also I got the 4-hour film version.
