I edited quite a bit today, mostly typographical, but also planning further edits. It feels like pulling teeth; I do not like this stage of the process, where my brain thinks it's idle (but it's not). I have to convince my brain that editing is work even though it involves pulling out words. Again that strange tendency towards 'productivity', when this is absolutely vital. Will have to spend the next few days breaking out of this habit of thinking.
I did come up with a minor illumination: I divided the fic into four parts, and decided I needed to rewrite the penultimate part. Alice was being so very passive during the penultimate part, and as I've gotten to know her better, I don't think she's passive at all. She'll fight and fight, and maybe let her thinking and plans spill over. Yes, she plans a lot, but I think at this point she will be unable to stay passive - she's reduced the uncertainty enough, persuaded herself enough that she'll attempt something.
And at the end of the fic too, she'll attempt something daring. Go Alice! I'll write your glory!
