I took three months to watch the first three episodes - mainly because of the surprising amount of gore and body horror - and then binged the rest today. All through the watching of it I was going like, Wow, no way a planet is this well-attuned to humans and Wow, no way is a planet this hostile but I am very much not a nature person so partway through episode 11 I learnt to shut off that annoying know-it-all voice and enjoy the show. I think I kept wanting it to be as quiet as Mushishi, but nothing can really match Mushishi so it was unfair of me to watch it while thinking of that. The drama didn't touch me too much but I really liked the quiet moments, especially towards the end where a pair of characters sit under a banyan-tree equivalent. That was really nice.
I thought the ending ended things quite nicely, but I heard they're going for a second season. The animations is flat out amazing! I liked the scifi album cover aesthetic as well.
I have some thoughts regarding the portrayal of nature in the show but again I do not have enough nature experience to say.
Lastly I really liked how binging this series demonstrated that I do still have the focus, when I can work up to it. I would definitely recommend a watch.
