Read a little Tonio Kroger today, quite intently, and was surprised at how much it related with Mothering Sunday. Lots of parallels and inversions with upbringing etc: Tonio being of two worlds where Jane had a 'blank sheet', both works commenting on artists, both works (a bit more slyly in Sunday) talking about what the artist is as a person - in Sunday, she is an imaginative liar with truth at the end, and does plunge her life into art, whereas I think Tonio thinks some sort of neuroticism and wholesale self-sacrifice is essential to art (but then Ivanovna - is that a common name? - intercedes!) I think in the Tonio Kroger estimation, I'd resemble the little lieutenant who earnestly inflicts his compositions on others.
On writing: I wrote a disjointed original fiction fragment. Maybe the whole book will be such fragments. I'm getting a bit better at making them knit together.
Also unsurprisingly today I spent most of my holiday sleeping. I read Fate/Redline (god knows why!) at midnight and couldn't sleep until 1 am. I also watched Laputa: Castle in the Sky today and pretty much wept through the cave sequence, I'm not sure why. I also watched more of the very bloody Bakumatsu documentary.
Tomorrow I'll endeavor to do much of the same as today!
